Fighting the Nothing-ness

Why is it so hard to fight the nothing-ness?  It feels effortless to spend hours scanning through meaningless articles, blogs, social media updates, and celebrity feuds. Magazines, TV shows, movies, and endless entertainment- all at my fingertips.  Conversations so easily drift toward what brands to buy or which public figures are at the center of scandal...

Nothing-ness.  It is filling my mind.  And really, what fills my mind is what fills my life.  Not what is in my hands.

I have been given virtually unlimited resources for learning, countless opportunities in relationships, an able body, a loving family, various passions and interests... but what will I do with it all?  My hands are full... but unless my mind is filled with the correct attitudes and perspectives concerning these blessings, it all amounts to nothing.

When I had Facebook, my mind began to think in "status updates".  Twitter and Instagram do the same thing- they train us to identify the interesting, humorous, or notable moments in our life, and to put them into a status, a hashtag, a selfie.  In a sense, we begin to see life through the lens of social media updates, because that is what we are filling our minds with.

But what I should be training my mind in is the truths of the Lord.  When I am walking with Jesus daily, soaking in his Word, singing of his glory, and remembering his promises- something amazing begins to happen: I begin to view life's circumstances through God's heart.

"Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God that we might understand the things freely given us by God... we have the mind of Christ." - 2 Corinthians 2

I am given the gift of receiving God's own thoughts!  How amazing is that? I can actually, literally become one with Christ - and how Christ thinks- and as a result, begin to live more fully... I can trade in the "nothing-ness" for "something-ness".  Something-ness that will last today, tomorrow, and for eternity.

Lord, help me fight the nothing-ness by filling my my mind with YOU.

I love the new format of your site and it is much easier to find your entries. I have caught up and have enjoyed them ALL! Well done and great perspectives.
As for this one.....reason #729 that I "killed" the computer....T.M.I. -- TOO MUCH INFORMATION.
Sometimes even weeding through to find what necessary is a time sucker....sigh. Some days...just to show I can do it....I don't ever turn a computer/laptop/device on.....yeow...so I just have to wonder all day what the weather will be tomorrow.......
The past 2 weeks have been crazy busy around here (but good). Fair the first week, Boys the second week.
Now this week is "catch up" with domestics, some sewing, and cleaning this gnarly carpet.
Making adorable little things for "Twinkle".
    See you soon......... Gr. Linda.
