Satan’s Greatest Lie: The Asterisk [*]
We’ve all been a victim of “the asterisk”.
You know, that pesky little star placed at the end of
virtually all “great sales” which translates it into a not-so-great sale. It innocently hides in the upper right corner
of our loan agreements, symbolizing the pages of fine print we’ll never
read. And of course, it teasingly
embellishes the “FREE” leggings online, indicating the 12.99 shipping on a
10-dollar product.
Thankfully, God is above these sales tactics. He is the too-good-to-be-true contractor
whose fine print only sweetens the deal.
Satan’s goal, though, is that might never reach this conclusion. He lies to us that Yes, your sins are forgiven- except for that one. Until you confess it to that
person. If you stay clean. He places conditions upon Christ’s love,
that Oh, it is deep, wide and endless- when
you feel it. For a limited time,
then you have to get your act together. After
you’ve gone to heaven.
If we give in to Satan’s whispers of fine print, they soon
become the heading of our heart. Those
tiny little letters he added to the bottom of the page quickly drown out the
eternal script God sealed our souls with.
Daily we are tempted
with the “lie of the asterisk”.
Our only hope?
Thankfully, it is a living hope.
An inexorable hope. An
incorruptible hope... We have the unfailing promises of God.
Take hold of promises like these:
“Now may the God of
peace himself sanctify you completely and may your whole spirit and soul and
body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who
calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
“For you have died,
and your life is hidden with Christ
in God.” – Colossians 3:3
“Who is to condemn?...
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who
loved us.” –Romans 8:34-37
Read them. Read them
again. And again. And again.
Memorize them. Quote them. Write them on your mirror. Hang them on your wall. Place them as your desktop background.
The power of Scripture cannot be overestimated when the
power of God is behind them.
The lie of the asterisk will only fade as we replace the
fine print of Satan with the sweet, sacred fine print of our God. His promises are sure, his promises are
good. Dive deeper into His Word, and you
will find the Sweetest Deal of all.
Good analogy! Like the "roaring lion" and the serpent in the garden...only giving half or tainted truths in order to rob God's people of His fullness!
